Renfrewshire Witch Hunt 1697 is a SCIO formed in 2012, to bring to life the events of 1697 where an 11 year old girl Christian Shaw accused 35 people of witchcraft and 7 were put to their death.
Now in its fourth year, Renfrewshire Witch Hunt 1697 is becoming an established festival for Paisley as well as a Renfrewshire Witch Hunt 1697 major resource for schools, community groups and other groups/individuals wishing to learn about Renfrewshire’s unique history.
Seven good citizens of Renfrewshire were put to death and the perpetrators (Christian Shaw and her mother) went on to establish the thread industry.
The Heritage & Creative Hub provides space for local crafters and other local businesses to sell and display their produce. Anything sold in the Hub has a Paisley Heritage Connection, be it through the textile Industry, Paisley/ Renfrewshire’s History and the Industrial Legacy of Christian Shaw with the foundation of Renfrewshire’s Textile Industry.
The Hub is also home to our workshop producing costumes for our Annual 1697 Re-enactment and the Elliot Hunter Theatre Company.
